The Yankee Candle Company was started in South Hadley, Massachusetts by Michael Kittredge, when he created his first scented candle from melted crayons, as a gift for his mother. In 1975 the first Yankee Candle Shop opened. The name is synonymous with fragranced candles, Home Fragrancing and Gifts.
